Household cleansing!

Everyone loves to cleanse these days. The biggest questions are how long and which types. Me personally, I don’t cleanse. Not that I have not wanted too but because working rotating shifts and cleansing is begging for detox cold. Detox cold being your body becomes overwhelmed and you become sick from your body expelling toxins. A good bad thing…lol. What I have noticed is how all these cleanses focus on your food but not your environment. At least the environment you can control, like your cleaning supplies, soaps, toothpaste, shampoo, and conditioner. “Light Bulb” ~Gru. Before you go run out and buy organic, non-toxic cleaners or stand beside them listen. Save money and make what you can. Most house hold surfaces can be cleaned with vinegar, baking soda, peroxide, and rubbing alcohol. My favorite mixture is vinegar and baking soda. (I use white distilled because a huge bottle from Costco’s is no more than $3 and last forever.) Stove, sink, tub, shower, toilet, floors of all kinds (vinegar for hard surfaces and baking soda to freshen carpet. Baking soda and vinegar removes stains from carpet but please test on a small scale first.) counters, and cleaning appliances like washer machine, dish washer, and oven. Mind you some elbow grease is required but no lung quenching smell. If you want smells 100% essential oils will do the trick. You have successfully cleaned most surfaces under $6 if you bought both vinegar and baking soda from Costco’s. Plus, vinegar removes mold and mildew. Imagine the cost saving of never needing Clorox anywhere again! What about dishes and laundry? I love making my own powder and liquid soaps from Borax and laundry Soda. This mixture is so mild you can wash your hands with it while removing grease. There again want scent then add essential oils. Now for body soap and shampoo, this can be handmade (preferably) but not everyone can juggle a family, work, and household creations. (This would be me.) i have noticed you can get local 5 ingredient soaps no matter where you live. If not there are 100’s of soap makers willing to sell online. You can save money by dumping big brand cleaners organic and non-organic plus cleanse your body of toxins just by limiting the amount of ingredients go into each product.

Happy New Year!

Happy 2014!!! May it bring you at least one step closer to your overall goals. I personally don’t like making resolutions but this year I have some goals I want the world to know about. First help those who want to be helped and not dwell on those who don’t. (A personal struggle.) Second find new ways to save money while being healthy. Third continue to slowly and mindfully make my whole house a healthier place.

The first steps I have taken this year has been revamping a chandelier for my daughter’s room and making plans to revamp my son’s light fixture. Second step was instead of spending more money on a better blender is blend my frozen fruit in my food processor first with my liquid then throw it in my cheap ($70) blender with my other ingredients for a smoother smoothie. Third, if you are like me and miss place stuff then you may appreciate this idea. I buy commercial water (not my favorite and I know the risks) and reuse the bottles because $2 max is cheaper than almost $5 for a decent bottle.
